2041 Mission

The 2041 Mission is named after the year in which the Antarctic Treaty (standing for the international protection of the continent from further human impact) can be renegotiated. The Mission is dedicated to the preservation of the Antarctic and, through this, Robert Swan and his son, Barney, aim to reach out to the global community and send a clear message about the need for an international collaborative approach to sustainability issues. Most importantly, the Mission seeks to inspire and engage politicians, business leaders and young people to take action in the fight against climate change.

Robert Swan

Robert Swan is the first man in history to walk to the North and South Pole. He is a humble surviver of the most hostile place on earth. Over the years he has greatly contributed to preserving the environment and obtaining global cooperation through education. His work has been recognised through his appointment as UN Goodwill Ambassador for Youth, a Visiting Professorship of the School of Environment at Leeds University and in 1994 he became Special Envoy to the Director General of UNESCO. Through his expeditions and lectures that Swan works to inform, engage and inspire the next generation of leaders to take responsibility, be sustainable, and know that now is the time for action in policy development, sustainable business generation and future technologies. At 63 years old, Robert Swan will walk 300 nautical miles to the South Pole this November where our team will meet him 60 miles before reaching the Pole.
